Motorola, just after unveiling the Moto Z2 Play for global markets on June 1 has silently announced it for the Indian market today. The device is priced at Rs. 27,999 in the country and supports the first generation Moto Mods as well. Unsurprisingly, Motorola said that the smartphone would be sold in both offline and online market in India for the same price.

The pre-orders for the phone are open in Flipkart and Motorola's official site starting 2 PM today. There are some notable changes in the Moto Z2 Play, compared to the Moto Z Play. Here are the specifications of the Motorola Moto Z2 Play launched in India today.

Design and Display

The Moto Z2 Play features the same design language as its predecessor from the back, but the device resembles the Moto G5 series from the front with an oval-shaped fingerprint scanner. Unlike the last year's Moto Z Play, the Z2 Play has a unimetal body, a major overhaul compared to its predecessor.



The smartphone retains the same 5.5-inch 1080p display from the Moto. Z Play. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and a 2.5D curved glass makes the device look premium.

Processor, RAM, and Internal Storage

The Moto Z2 Play is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC, with a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU under-the-hood. The chipset works in tandem with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. For the uninitiated, the Moto Z Play arrived with Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage.

The Snapdragon 626 SoC is just 10 percent faster than the Snapdragon 625, and the real life performance cannot be noticed with naked eye.



The device has a fingerprint scanner embedded into the oval-shaped home key, and Motorola claims that the sensor unlocks the device in just 750ms.

Camera

The highlight of the Moto Z2 Play is its camera because it uses a 12MP dual pixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, and dual LED flash. There's an 8MP front-facing camera which also comes with dual tone LED flash. The rear camera is capable of recording 4K videos, and the selfie camera can handle 1080p videos.

Software and Connectivity

The Moto Z2 Play ships with near stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with a mere Motorola customizations. There are the Moto Display, and Moto Voice features as well. You can now reply directly to a notification from the Moto Display itself. Furthermore, the fingerprint sensor can be used to control the device, same as the Moto G5 Plus.



All the connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and GPS are present in the phone. The Z2 Play has a 3.5mm headphone jack and comes with a USB Type-C port.

Battery

The Moto Z2 Play is backed by a 3000mAh battery, a downgrade from the 3510mAh cell seen on the Moto Z Play. With the Snapdragon 626 chipset inside, the Z2 Play will last a complete day. The phone also has Motorola's TurboCharge technology.

Moto Mods

As mentioned earlier, all the first generation Moto Mods will support the Z2 Play as well. Besides the phone, Motorola also unveiled few Moto Mods. The JBL SoundBoost 2 is announced along with a gaming mod and a battery mod. However, the pricing of the Moto Mods is not revealed by the company.

Pre-Booking Offers and Availability

The Z2 Play will be up for pre-order from today and will continue up to June 14. The first sale of the phone will commence on Flipkart on June 15 and various major offline stores.



There are four pre-booking offers. Customers who pre-book the phone will get a flat 50 percent off on the Moto Mod. Secondly, the device will be available at zero EMI rate for the pre-bookers. Thirdly, Motorola is offering an Armour box which includes a Moto Protective case, Moto Style Mod, and a screen protector. Lastly, customers will get 100GB of free 4G data from Reliance Jio. The Reliance Jio offer will continue after the pre-booking period as well.
