In this article I will show you how you can Turn ON PC Without Power Button.

Sometimes life hands you really unfortunate moments. You might slip off a banana peel right in front of your girlfriend or fall from your bike in the middle of a busy street. Or if you are anything like me i.e. careless, you might break the power button of your PC cabinet. Yup, been there, done that.

Almost 2 years ago I was actually planning a mod, for which I needed to look at the working of the power button. I snapped off the case's front panel, removed the wire from the motherboard and tried to remove the actual button from the panel. And snap.. It broke and stopped working.

I learned 2 lessons that day: first, be careful and second Google is your best friend. Also more importantly found a new way to turn on PC without the power button.

Points to note- I used a broken motherboard to demonstrate the procedure, you can perform the steps inside the cabinet too. I shall not be held responsible for any damage caused to the system due to performing upcoming steps. Please excuse the dust too.

So how will we do it?

Things you will need

• Broken power switch
• A small piece of conductor with a flat pointy end
• 1 minute

Procedure

• Remove the power cable from the PSU (the power cable to the "CPU").

• Remove the side panels of the cabinet. Keep in mind if the PC is a prebuilt system and in warranty, then removing the panels will void your warranty.

• Check whether the problem is actually with the power switch and not any other component. If not, then God shall bless you.

• Trace the cable coming from the power switch. Safely remove the power button cable from the motherboard. Do not force it, make small side to side pulls and it will come out.



The pins are usually located at the bottom right corner. The cable comes to the pins marked F-panel

• Now, with the cable removed you can just use a conductor to make a contact with the pins marked in the photo. Just a small touch or you might break the pins as well. For the conductor I will suggest a small tester or a small sized screw driver. If not then anything with a point large enough to make contact with both the pins will do. Just make sure that the conductor you are using should have some form of insulation to hold onto.



You will have to touch the two marked pins.

And voila, it's ON. Yes! We made it.

Notes-

• You will have to turn on your PC the same way after every shutdown. Though you can let the power cable attached.
• It looks like a long process but takes less than 5 seconds with some practice.
• You cannot turn on the PC in dark.
• It will cause no damage if you are careful every time. I used my PC this way for 2 years.
• You can also use this procedure when you want to test the components but don't have a cabinet to mount them.
