Choosing a Desktop PC is a difficult task. Simply put, a desktop PC is just like car. Every part can be either swapped out or added on for better performance or aesthetics.

You guys love Desktop PCs. Don't you? That's the reason you are here. There are some problems with desktop too, which I discussed on my previous post. You can read the post here. Still with me? Good.

Don't worry, this post is only going to discuss the positive points of the desktop PC. In this post I will give you some valid reasons why your next PC SHOULD be a Desktop. So read ahead amigos!!

Reason No. 1 - If you love everything custom

The reason I love the desktop form factor so much. You can actually customize every aspect of the PC and you get a lot of options too. Bigger monitors, cabinets, water-cooling. you name it and you get it. With so many nice articles on modding and customizing on the Internet, your PC is just limited by your imagination. Want a PC with blue and yellow color scheme or want to have some pink colored cable sleeves; stuff is just a few clicks away.

The satisfaction you get when you build or customize your own desktop PC is unmatched by any other form of personal computing. You can stick stickers on a laptop but that's it. No matter if you want a 'Look at my Bling-Bling Shine' look or a stealth bomber PC, you can have it all.

Reason No. 2 - If you are bitten by the upgrade bug

If you are the type of person who only wants the Best of Latest, then you should definitely consider choosing a desktop PC. You can never fully upgrade your desktop. Bigger and better stuff comes up every month. You can upgrade your PC aesthetically or you can go for a more work oriented upgrade like a better workstation GPU.

Reason No. 3 - Easy and comparatively cheaper repairs



Hardware Troubleshooting is much easier with Desktop PC.

Desktop PCs are cheaper to build and hence are cheaper to repair. Apart from chip level problem, if a part is not working, then you can either get it repaired for cheap or completely replace the part. From my personal experience, I always found the desktop PC to be cheaper for repairs. Also, repairing a tablet or a notebook is not easy.

One another point is, you can easily perform troubleshooting at home if you have some old spare parts with you; which is not the case with other restricted PC platforms.

Using a desktop PC is much more convenient compared to notebook or tablet. Period.

It is easier to adapt to the mouse and keyboard format for beginners; and even for experienced users the comfort of a keyboard and mouse is hard to leave. Laptop and touch-screen keyboards are crammed and slow; and don't even get me started on horrible touch-pads of laptops. You may have seen so many laptop users carrying a separate mouse and keyboard. Now why this extra burden? Comfort and ease. simple.

Reason No. 5 - It's the real transformer

The desktop PC is an amazingly versatile machine. A dead silent office desktop in daytime can transform into a gaming machine by night. All you need are a couple of clicks. The modular upgrade nature of a desktop allows it to play many roles. It can be anything from a server to a home entertainment center.

It is cheaper in the long run too. It is cheaper to upgrade a desktop PC as many parts are available at different price points.

Do you like restricted computing environment? Me neither. After all it is a "Personal" computer. The desktop PC, by its very nature is open. If you have built your own PC, no one can stop you from customizing it. On the other hand the mobile computing scene puts a lot of restriction on its users.

An open hardware system along with an open source software environment is simply a recipe for success.

Reason No. 7 - Real Gaming

No other platform provides you a gaming experience like the desktop PC. Yes you get gaming laptops and you can buy consoles too but they have limited capabilities. Don't forget they are expensive.

You may have heard that PC gaming is expensive. It's just a Myth. You don't need to spend 1 lakh plus for a decent enough PC. 40K-50K INR  or 600$-800$ is enough for an entry level do-it-all machine. It will not only play games, it will be a workstation, your entertainment system and what not. Even if you go for a dedicated console, don't forget you will still need some form of a PC for your other work.

So these were some of the reasons why one should consider choosing a desktop PC. This list of reasons is not exhaustive. I am not forcing you to go for a desktop. All I am giving you are some alternative options and views for your next purchase.
